Join young adults from various synods throughout the Northeast on an alternative pilgrimage of peace and justice throughout the Holy Land. 

Rev. Dustin Wright, an ordained KAB_4009pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church in Schenectady, New York, Trena Montgomery, Program Assistant at the Lutheran World Federation Jerusalem Program, and Melanie Ferraro, a recent graduate from the University of Colorado, will be organizing and leading this unique pilgrimage. All three trip leaders participated in a Young Adult Leadership Development trip to Palestine and Israel through ELCA KAB_4033Peace Not Walls in January 2014.

TRIP DETAILS

Dates: May 20 – May 31, 2015

Ages: 18-30

Visit key sites in and around Jerusalem (including Bethlehem and Nazareth), build relationships with local Palestinians and Israelis, including those who are active members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL), and young adults engaged in the pursuit of peace.

Expectations: Participate in two conference calls, one in-person preparatory retreat before the trip, and one in-person follow-up retreat. All participants should be prepared to walk three miles a day. Participants will be expected to share their experience with their home congregations once they return.

Approximate Cost: $1300 (lodging, meals, transportation, tour guide fees, entrance fees, tips) Airfare to Tel Aviv not included in price. Airfare is approximately $1000-$1200. Approximate total cost (subject to change): $2500 per person.

The goals of this trip are to:

  1. Explore and reconstruct the idea of balance through the lens of accompaniment.
  2. Model a pilgrimage of justice and peace, practicing being on the way, here and at home and engage the mind, body and spirit of participants.
  3. Foster a networking and discernment environment amongst social justice minded young adults, their congregations and their synods.
