KAB_4012Join us for a young adult trip to Palestine and Israel and embark upon a pilgrimage of justice and peace in the Holy Land.

Laura Gerstl and Meredith Harber, representatives of the Peace Not Walls campaign of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, would like to invite young adults (age 18-30) meredithharberto apply for the Young Adult Pilgrimage to the Holy Land, June 4-14, 2015. This is an opportunity to travel to Palestine and Israel on an experiential learning trip with other young adults for the purpose of building awareness around issues of justice and peace in the Holy Land.

Trip Details

Dates: June 4-14, 2015 (travel days included)

What will we do in Palestine and Israel? We will visit key sites in and around Jerusalem and seek to build relationships with local Lutherans, other Christians and representatives of the Jewish and Islamic faiths, who are engaged in the pursuit of peace in the Holy Land. We will connect with Palestinians and Israelis working for peace and justice.

Where will we stay? Various locations through Palestine and Israel.

Cost: $1,275 (includes lodging, all meals, transportation, tour guide fees, entrance fees, tips) *Airfare to Tel Aviv, Israel, is not included in this price.

What will we do in the United States? We will meet via conference call and video conference before and after the trip to learn about the historical, religious, socio-political, and cultural context of the region, leadership development, advocacy, and community organizing.

What are my responsibilities? Everyone who joins the trip will be encouraged to facilitate local engagement with the Peace Not Walls campaign in partnership with their home communities, including at least one public presentation in the participant’s local community. All participants should prepared to walk three miles a day (no cars are allowed in the Old City of Jerusalem).

Preference given to applicants aged 18-30 and affiliated with an ELCA congregation or ministry setting in the Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod, the North/West Lower Michigan Synod or the Southeast Michigan Synod of the ELCA.

The goals of this trip are to:

  1. Live out a theology of accompaniment by practicing it and living out the experience in relationships with the scriptures.
  2. Build strong relationships with Palestinians in the West Bank through hearing and listening to stories.
  3. Develop a strong foundation for political action back home by helping participants to have a clear view of their role in their struggle as Americans and encourage them to build the emotional, spiritual and political courage to act.
